Masterclass Lois Choi-Kain 10 december

Voorafgaand aan de Dag van de Psychotherapie geeft Lois Choi-Kain de masterclass: Psychotherapeutic use of Good Psychiatric Management in treating patients with severe personality disorders and co-occuring disorders. 

Good psychiatric management (GPM) is a common factors approach to the clinical management and psychotherapeutic approach to treating borderline and other severe personality disorders. Found to be comparable in outcomes to rigorously applied expert dialectical behavioral therapy at the end of 12 months of treatment as well as two years follow up, GPM offers both generalist and specialists therapists a basic means of organizing treatment, that adheres to national guidelines, is informed by current scientific literature, and structured by principles of good care across mental health disorders.

This masterclass will review the background of GPM’s development, its core formulation of interpersonal hypersensitivity as the engine of dysfunction, and it’s toolkit for framing treatment and managing safety concerns, medications and co-occurring disorders. In the masterclass we will discuss two patients with severe personality disorders  and how  GPM can be applied in a psychotherapeutic treatment frame.
